Artist's Comments

Once upon a time, wild tigers were a big threat to Koreans. There are many folk tales about tigers in Korea, and tigers are always regarded as an intimidating but silly creature in the stories. Although the Korean government announced there were no more wild tigers left in South Korea, some people still want to believe that some tigers are still alive in a deep forest. While I was painting this tiger, all the tiger stories that I have heard came into my mind. It makes me happy to believe, like when I was child, that there still might be tigers alive somewhere in a bamboo forest.

I am not very good at watercolor, but I think I am slowly getting better considering my first one. (I started painting 3 years ago.) I refered to several tiger pictures, but none of them exactly matches my painting. I used them as a "reference".
I was not planning to paint the background in the beginning. But while I was painting, I wanted to describe the image that I have in my mind about the Korean tiger tales. So I added the bamboo.

Once upon a time by forsythia is one of my favorite watercolors of the year. And she's from Austin to boot! What a great artist to have local. Anyways, she has some other amazing pieces in her gallery and I'm trying to convince her to sell these as prints. So go and comment and convince her it's a good idea! :) (Smile) (Selected by $matteo) (Featured by °matteo)

This is absolutely exquisite.. I love the eyes of the tiger, and the drops of water on the bamboo. The textures in this are just outstanding.. Wonderful, wonderful work.

Life is a comedy for those who think, and a tragedy for those who feel.

Very good painting! Just one slight comment, the symetry line of the tiger's fur on its forehead is sliding a bit on the right and not aligned with the nose of the animal. It makes it a bit odd for me; but this is still going to my FAVs, I have much admiration for people who can draw that kind of things so well.

Truly awesome....I couldn't do that picture better in a thousand years. You are postively a great water color painter...although you doubt yourself. This is definitely going to my FAV's.

omg, i absolutly love this. it is so beautiful. u picked a great subject and the composition and colors are exquisite. i think the symetry line looks great, too. it makes it seem as if the tiger is just turning its head as it comes through the trees.
