We all dream that we are better beings in a different world. Maybe we are, in truth, in a dimension that we do not realize.

Oil on canvas, 24X36 (inches)

It is rather old -- 4 years old, but it doesn't mean that I have painted that long. (I have no patience to do so.) I started it a long time ago and abandoned it for four years. I used a reference photo for the raccoon in the beginning, but I lost it while I was moving from city to city. The model was a a law school student at UT Austin at that time. I hired her to take snap shots of her figure. Unfortunately I lost a contact with her too. I always have felt bad since she wanted to see the final painting. I believe she is doing well wherever she is, or whatever she does.

Wow...this is a beautiful painting. Especially appreciate the racoon and the water. I'm surprisingly left a little confused.
The message I have a vague grasp of, but the symbolism baffles me. A raccoon is a very 'beautiful' creature in my opinion, and...well. I won't bugger you too much, as you did start on it four years ago.

In any case, it's lovely and I envy your skill with texture.

:) I did not choose a raccoon not because I think it is an ugly creature. Raccoons are regarded as very mystical and smart beings in asian countries. People believed that they could do magic to transform themselves into something else, like humans.

Thank you very much your thought and opinion. I really appreciate it. :rose:

Yeah sure, I know her name.
I just hesitate to put up her name widely on the web. She might not want it to happen. She was a junior, so I do not think she is still at the college. But I will send you a note regarding the info. :)

Ah, this is absolutely stunning! And I just adore the concept behind this. I've often wondered about that. :) An instant :+fav:

I didn't think you'd think they were 'ugly.' :) Ah, I didn't think of that? With the magic leaf and all? I always found those legends enthralling. Thinking about it like that adds a new dimension to the painting for me, thanks!

The doors of perception. This tells me that we all see and discern beauty in different ways. That also applies to how we see ourselves, I suppose....

The depth of thought here is mirrored by the skill it took to execute it. Beautifully done. We're all richer for your having shared it here =)

Incredibly beautiful work, surrealistic fantasy at its best. It's almost like two great paintings in one. I really like the use of colors and the flowers seem to add a lot to the picture. I like the symbolism too, not everything has to be obvious and straight-forward (especially in fantasy and surreal art).
