This is a scratch board drawing. Instead of drawing with black ink, you actually scratch off the black coating on the board with a metal tool. I used a horse magazine photo (which was in color) as a reference.

Great technique.
The original artwork is 15X10. But when I scanned this work, the edges of the image were a bit cropped. (it didn't fit in my scanner.)

btw, what do you do if you make a mistake on a scratchboard?

You guys are always my inspiration.
If you make a minor mistake on a scratchboard, you can ink on it with black color. But only when it is not a deep cut nor wide area. Well, you might ink on it although it is deep and wide area. But it would look messy and you are unable to re-scratch on that area. Scratchboard is kind of a black coated thick paper, not a metal/wooden kind board. So if you scratch and ink over again, you know, the fiber comes out.
